System Integration

Modern automated storage and handling systems - such as Autostore, shuttles, carousels, and pick robots - make warehouse automation increasingly accessible. Yet these systems often come with their own control software, resulting in siloed automation. To achieve truly optimal warehouse automation, integration is essential. FlowBox enables seamless communication between these systems, uniting them into one efficiently synchronized whole. FlowBox is also referred to as a Warehouse Execution System (WES) or Warehouse Control System (WCS).

Order Processing

FlowBox operates on the basis of customer orders or pick lists received from an ERP or WMS system. It translates these orders into instructions for the various automated systems. With this centralized control, complex warehouse operations can be executed in real time.

FlowBox does not manage stock records, inventory administration, or other dynamic warehouse data. Those tasks remain with the ERP or WMS system.

Pick Strategy

Before picking can begin, FlowBox must know which order or pick list is to be processed - for example by scanning a barcode on the pick list. The picker then works through the list while FlowBox coordinates the automated systems. Once picking is complete, the results are reported back to the ERP or WMS system.

For fully paperless picking, FlowBox can provide the picker with relevant information (location, item, quantity) via a display on the barcode scanner or, when using a pick cart, through a tablet mounted on the cart.

Many variations are possible on this theme. We configure FlowBox to seamlessly align with - or complement - your existing pick strategies.

Other Warehouse Operations

FlowBox can also be deployed to support other warehouse operations, such as putaway of receipts or returns and the handling of backorders. However, this is optional, since FlowBox does not manage dynamic warehouse data itself and instead relies entirely on the ERP or WMS system as the single source of truth.

Standalone

The FlowBox operates fully independently. No additional software package is required - not even in the cloud. FlowBox is a secure on-premise solution that provides strong protection against cyberattacks.

Scalable

Multiple FlowBoxes can be deployed within a warehouse. They synchronize data with each other and distribute the load. This makes FlowBox suitable for distribution centers of any size.

RFID in logistics

Efficiency, reliability, and visibility are essential in modern logistics. RFID technology (Radio Frequency Identification) helps companies automate goods flows and gain tighter control. By identifying and tracking products or shipments wirelessly, you get real-time insight across the logistics chain.

What is RFID?

RFID uses tags, readers, and antennas to identify goods automatically. Unlike barcodes, line-of-sight is not required and multiple items can be read at once. This makes RFID ideal for logistics environments where speed and accuracy are critical.

Applications in logistics

1: Warehouse management:
RFID is used for the automatic registration of pallets, bins, crates, and/or roll containers. Incoming and outgoing goods are detected via RFID gates, enabling a faster and error-free process.

2: Inventory management:
RFID provides continuous insight into stock levels. Inventory changes are automatically processed in the WMS or ERP system.

3: Tracking & tracing:
RFID lets companies know exactly where goods are within their warehouse or distribution center.

4: Transport and distribution:
During loading and unloading, RFID automatically verifies that the right goods are shipped.

Benefits of RFID

  • Faster logistics processes
  • Fewer errors and manual handling
  • Real-time insight into goods flows
  • Better integration with logistics IT systems
